This is another post from the Suggest a Topic page, and in this post we take a look at all the international mutual funds that are currently available to Indians.
These funds are sorted according to their category, and I’ve written a small description for them. In three or four cases I’ve just taken the description from the fund website itself, and if you want more information about them I’ve included the source at the end as well.
Do let me know if I’ve missed out any International mutual funds in India, and the starting point for this list was from Value Research.

Thanks Atul.
One data that is significant in “international” funds are their exposure to Indian equities. Some of the above funds invest atleast 65% in Indian equities to get into the “Indian Equity” category and consequent tax breaks i.e they don’t really provide diversification. Maybe you can add that data (if available) as a column to the table.
Thanks for that suggestion – I checked a few funds in this list at random and didn’t see one that had more than 65% in Indian equities. Do you know of a fund in this list that does that? Might help me to get an idea on what kind of funds are doing that.

Mirae Indo China Consumption fund has 65% in Indian equities. But that doesn’t figure in the ValueResearch list. There is something about this 65% proportion in Indian equtities which I recall reading about but cant recall.
Taxation
Global funds are treated as debt funds and are not subject to the Securities Transaction Tax. Short-term capital gains tax is charged if one is invested for less than a year, according to the investor’s tax slab.
Similarly, for over a year, long-term capital gains tax of 10 per cent without indexation or 20 per cent post indexation is charged.
In case of global funds that invest up to 65 per cent in the Indian domestic equity markets, the tax treatment is the same as domestic funds, and investors are eligible for the tax exemption on long-term gains from these funds.
Hi Manshu,
I also checked a few funds from the above list randomly and these seem to be “pure international” funds. So thanks for such a list. Some of them may still invest in India because their mother fund may be doing it as part of their emerging market strategy. But I guess that is okay.
There are a few funds, for e.g. Templeton India Equity Income Fund, ( not in the above list), which have more than 65% in Indian Equity.
So looks like this list is fine then.
