CIBIL TransUnion credit score – role in a loan application process

CIBIL Credit Information Report

By now, you must have become well versed with the contents of a Credit Information Report and the significance of a credit score. Now it is time to know how you can access your report and know what your credit score is.

You can access your CIBIL TransUnion Score along with the full Credit Information Report for a nominal fee of Rs. 470. You are just required to fill a request form with some basic details like Name, Address, Date of Birth, Gender, Contact Details etc. and keep the self-attested copies of your Identity Proof and Address Proof ready.

You can see the application here.

Online payments can be made either through Net Banking platform of a bank or through a debit card/credit card/cash card. The net banking facility is available with 33 banks as of now. You will get a unique CIBIL registration ID and transaction ID as a confirmation on successful completion of your online payment. After the payment is made, you need to answer 3-5 questions about any of your loans or credit cards to authenticate your application. You’ll then be required to provide the soft copies of your identity proof and address proof.

If your application gets authenticated, you’ll receive your credit score and CIR in your e-mail in about 2-4 days. However, if the authentication fails, you need to take a printout of the receipt for online payment and mail it to the below mentioned CIBIL address along with your proofs.

Consumer Relations: Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited,
Hoechst House, 6th Floor, 193 Backbay Reclamation,
Nariman Point, Mumbai 400 021, India.
Tel.: 022 61404300, email: info@cibil.com

Offline Application

If you decide against going online, then you will have to take a printout of the application form, duly fill it and get a Demand Draft (DD) made worth Rs. 470. Again attach the copies of your identity and address proofs along and send it to the above mentioned address.

Also, if you wish to purchase only your Credit Information Report, then you can do so by having a DD of just Rs. 154 and follow the above mentioned process. But, in that case, the process would be offline only because there is no provision to get it online without asking for your credit score.

You also need to sign the form in order to confirm your requests. Note that the address proof (except passport) – bank statement, telephone bill, electricity bill or credit card statement should not be more than 3 months old and should be in your name matching with your name in your loan/credit card account or on your PAN card (if you do not have any loan or credit card).
Like many of us undergo physical health check-ups, I think one should get his or her credit score checked at least once a year. It will keep you aware of your credit health and make you take necessary steps to correct it whenever required.

So what are you waiting for now? Just visit the CIBIL website and get your score checked. I’m sure there will be many surprises in store for many of us. Just share your score and experiences here with us so that we have a platform to understand these things in more detail.

  1. Dear Shiv, i have received my CIBIL report & the score is 636. How i can increase my scoring to get loans & credit cards. If you required i can give you my report on seperate mail (if you share your mail id). Can you help me? Pls., advise.

      1. Hi Shiv need your comment i have given my cridit card to my friend & he used it for his personal reason know he has clear 1 card & another card still dues are there & many time he paid cheques to bank & that cheque got bounce is it going to impact my CIBIL report if yes then what is the way out to get this clear kindly suggest.

        1. Hi Syed,

If the second card is in your name, it is definitely going to affect your credit history negatively. Just pay off the credit card balance immediately & ask your friend to pay you back the money. All these are factual transactions and that is why you cannot get them cleared. But, if you can improve your credit record going forward, it will help you improve your score as well.

        2. Dear Shiv paying EMI through cheque is not a good payment method it will be good to pay online or through ECS which is actually a good method to pay on time as you know that to clear the cheque it hardly takes 48hours to clear from the bank but if your score has come down i can improve and also i can see how many days you have DPDs in your cibil report to a particular bank because it can have 2 cheque bounces but it should not be more than than 2 bounces so please contact me for more details Syed 8095355329

    1. Dear Mr. Vivek,

You need to ask the bank the reason for the rejection of your application. If it is because of your credit score, you can order a report from the concerned bureau. The details of the late payments would have been reported by your bank to the credit bureau and this might be the reason why it negatively impacted your score.

Explain the lender your situation for non payment towards your bike loan and this might give a window for the lenders to consider your loan application.

  3. we have some customers who are unwilling to pay our bills and send us the required C forms for VAT purposes
we have gone to court to collect the dues, is there a way to have these defaults listed in the credit rating system so that in future when they do apply for a loan from any agency they can be questioned about the defaults

  5. Dear Sir,
I am having LIC HFL loan . Now i m paying the installment regularly through ECS.
I applied my LOAN before 7 months and The First 3months ECS amount of around 2000 was not cleared due to deduction request to Bank from LIC HFL didn’t reach.
LIC HFL asked me to pay the amount of around Rs.2000 along with interest around Rs.200 in its cash counter and paid it and cleared the EMI.
My question is will my Name appear in CIBIL report . If so How to remove it ?…

    Please advise.
    T.K.Natarajan.

    1. Hi,
I’m not sure how it would get reflected in your credit report as it depends on LIC HFL how they have reported it. You should buy your credit report & check how it is showing in the report. If it is negatively affecting your report, then you should ask LIC HFL to correct it. If they dont do that, you can raise Dispute Resolution Request with CIBIL.

    1. If you have taken any loan or credit card, your credit history gets maintained at CIBIL and you cannot get your name & credit history removed/changed from CIBIL records on your own.

  6. How long does a Loan A/c details (Fully paid and settled one) stay on CIBIL Report. Because, when I checked my CIBIL, the loan details are from 2003 onwards (almost 10 years). Can I request the same to be deleted.

    1. Hi Vivek,
CIBIL is required to maintain all the accounts, delinquent accounts as well as good standing accounts, for a minimum period of 7 years. I am not 100% sure what is the maximum period for which it maintains these details but I think CIBIL will not remove any details as per your request. CIBIL will do that only if any of the lenders asks it to do so.

  7. Hi,
There was some error in my CIBIL report, some wrong entries were there from HDFC bank which after repeated mails they corrected but my credit score hasent increased a bit. Also they made 4 inquiries on my CIBIL report in a span of a week.Since I had applied for a loan but the bank has said that your score hasnt increased due to several inquiries made by HDFC.I want know that does making too many inquiries affects Credit score and if so then up to what extent ,like 4 inquiries are made in a weeks time so my credit score would be reduced. Please clarify?

    1. Hi Indrani,
It negatively affects your score, only if your actions indicate that you are “Credit Hungry”. If the same lender is making four inquiries due to some reasons, it does not indicate that you are credit hungry and ideally it should not affect your credit score negatively.

    2. Dear Indrani,

Yes, having too many enquiries, and in your case 4 in one week, affects your score. If you have not made these applications, you can raise a dispute with CIBIL to get them removed from your credit report. This may help in improving your score.
Also, analyse your report for other factors which may have affected your score.

We, at Credexpert, provide services where we analyse individuals credit reports and give them a comprehensive view of the details in the report and guide them in the direction of how they can improve their score. Our service where we raise the dispute with the credit bureau on your behalf and help your resolve your queries related to credit report.

  8. Hi, I had applied for personal loan at SBH. Bank said that my Cibil report shows that two credit cards were settled under one time settlement scheme. I do not owe any dues but still the bank had rejected my application pl. guide me.

    1. Hi Upender… you should check your CIBIL report, raise your issue with the lender which has reported outstanding amount in your name and try to get your credit history clean. In case it doesnt help, you may raise a Dispute Resolution request to CIBIL or approach Banking Ombudsman to get the issue resolved.

    2. Dear Mr. Upender,

Even if you don not owe any dues to the bank, your application may have been rejected because of the “settled” status on your credit report. Settled remark on your credit report has a negative impact on your score and shows the lender that you have not been able to pay your dues in full.

We, at Credexpert, provide services where we analyse credit reports and help individuals understand the report in a comprehensive manner. We also provide services where we help individuals by coordinating with lending institutions and credit bureaus, to help them remove the settled remark from their credit report.

  9. hi,this is ashish ,working in govt sector as group a emploee.my query is that recently i had applied for a car loan which later was rejected by bank on the basis of cibil report which further was based on the fact that i failed to make repayment of amount spent using credit in the year 2006.but the fact is that at that time i didnt have any credit card and i came to have my own pancard in 2008.plz guide me.thanx

    1. Hi Ashish… You should raise this issue with the lender which had reported non-payment of its due amount in 2006 and try to get your credit history clean. You may approach Banking Ombudsman also if the lender does not do that.

  10. Hi,

My Cibil Reports shows N/A. Am i eligible to apply personal loan?

If not hot to improve my cibil score please advice

    1. Hi Ram… ‘NA’ signifies that you do not have a credit history. So, if your income is healthy and your loan requirement is reasonable, then you should easily get a personal loan.

  11. before 2 year i have take credit card loan from HDFC Bank, I have paid EMI, but due to some financial problem i want personal loan, last month when i am applying for new personal loan, bank is say ur cibil score is low and not apply for this. My contect no 8105761805

what should i do for improve my cibil score.

    please help.

    1. Hi Anand… First of all, check your CIBIL score by buying your CIBIL credit report online – https://www.cibil.com/online/credit-score-check.do

Once you have your credit report with you, try to analyse what wrong is there in your report due to which your CIBIL score is low. If there is any default or incorrect reporting by the lender, you should try to pay the balance amount or get it rectified and improve your score. You can also get your report analysed by a financial advisor.

    2. Dear Mr. Kumar,

As Mr. Kukreja mentioned, you need to get a copy of your credit report and analyse your report. There could be various reasons as to why your score is low, and there ways to improve your score based on the analysis.

Credit report contains various sections of your demographics, account details and enquiry section. Each of them plays a crucial role in compounding a credit bureau score. Lenders while evaluating your credit application will consider credit bureau score and their internal evaluating parameter.

We provide services where we analyse individual’s credit reports and give them a comprehensive view of the details in the report, highlight the pain areas in their report and guide them in the direction of how they can improve their score.

what should i do for improve my cibil score.

    please help.

    1. Dear Mr. Narendra,

Firstly, would like to understand if you have cleared all the dues on your personal loan?

Secondly, late payments i.e. DPDs towards an unsecured loan (personal loan) impacts your score and it will be viewed negatively by the lending institution.

We offer our services where we help individuals improve their credit score by analysing their credit report and identify areas which have negatively impacted the score. Under this service we coordinate with lending institutions to remove any negative remarks from your credit report and credit bureaus to update the correct information.

Please visit our website http://www.credexpert.co.in for more information.

  13. Dear Sir,

I am having personal loan due to non availability in india my EMI had bounced. Now i m paying in installment next month i will go for final settlement. will my CIBIL record cleared & score will increase. i am able to take any other credit facilities from any bank.

    Please advise.

    1. Dear Mr. Patel,

Opting for a settlement on your personal loan will negatively impact your credit score. We would request you to make regular payments towards your personal loan if your cash flows allow you to do that.

If not, we would request you to talk to your lender to work out on your EMI amount, which will enable you to make payments on time.
Keep one thing in mind, that the lender should not consider this request as “restructuring” of the loan as this will reflect on your credit report and will impact your score negatively, as would the settlement.

Another option for you to consider is to opt for an interest free loan (family and friends) which will help you to make a complete payment towards your loan without any settlement.

We offer our services where we analyse your credit report and also look into your cash flows to help you prioritise your payments towards your debt obligations in a systematic and convenient manner.

Please feel free to visit our website http://www.credexpert.co.in for more details.

      Warm regards,
      Credexpert.
